1993-1994 Hodags

The 1994 season represented a turning point in Madison Ultimate history. For the first time, the name Hodags was adopted. The World Championships hosted in Madison in the summer of 1993 had drawn a large rookie class including Aaron "lupe" Delair, Ben "jamin" Cohen, Stacey Mears, Charlie the resinator Reznikoff, Ron Kublanza jr, Jake Spiro and Ed "hustle" Bartlett. This group, later to form the core of one of the best Hodag teams ever, was appropriately hazed in their rookie year by the old guard veterans Rhubis, Chuck D and Chuck King, Brendan "Plow Horse" Reiss and John Platt. Not to mention the first of two get-naked-and-party-like-a-freak Wagners of Hodag history: Richard "daddy wags" Wagner. With grit and ferocity, the Hodags of 1994 clawed their way to a 14-14 stand-off against CUT at finals of regionals. The eternal rookie earned his name as Rhubis was struck in the ankle by the pull on game point. CUT capitalized and scored a goal to win the game. At Nationals the Hodags went 3-2 in pool play and did not make semis by point differentials. This misfortune was made up for by complete domination at the party: seven Hodags performed the Cheese cheer naked on the streets of Baton Rouge. Two of whom were later apprehended by the police. At the after bar, Lupe was seen convincing a woman to give him her panties and bra. Daddy wags swung naked from a rope swing, launching himself into a pit filled with dog excrement. Numerous rookies were chased out of a field by a farmer in the early morning as they looked for 'shrooms. etc.
