Despite suffering the minor setback of having torn his
left ACL at the end of September, Pankratz is poised to be one of the
most dominant forces on the Hodags this year. Although he will undergo
reconstructive surgery in mid December and will be unable to play the
majority, if not all of the college season, he is still predicted to play
an integral part in the team's success this year. Many critics have pointed
out that Pankratz's inability to play will hamper his chances of scoring
actual goals or creating real turnovers. However, proponents have been
quick to assert that his natural skill and grace in handling a clipboard
and his keen ear for witty banter will be invaluable to the team in the
upcoming year. Early scouting reports from the rest of the college Ultimate
world have detailed the limited success other top college programs have
had in finding players to counter Pankratz's strong sideline presence.
They note that finding an individual with the same level of desire for
standing on the sideline and overall personal charm is next to impossible.
So, if you are fortunate enough to see the Hodags play this coming year
and you are awestruck by the commanding presence of the player standing
or possibly sitting, maybe even napping on the sideline, do not be afraid,
it is only number 22, Matt Pankratz.
